I'm Taichi Kurawaka, a Japanese editor based in Nara.
One editor, reading your product the way this market will. Everything I deliver arrives as a document your team can share, translate, and act on.
I've been editing for the Japanese market since 2019. I also run a Japanese media project of my own, which keeps me inside the language every day, reading how Japanese readers actually respond to things, not how textbooks say they should.
Some of that editing happened where results get measured publicly: search. In client work for a Japanese marketing-technology company, pages I edited took the #1 spot on Google Japan for competitive marketing terms, growth marketing (グロースマーケティング) among them, with related keywords ranking alongside. I treat that as evidence for one thing only: when Japanese content is edited to fit its reader, Japan responds.
Where the name comes from
The name Mitate is a Japanese word, 見立て. A doctor's mitate is a diagnosis. A tailor's mitate is choosing what suits you. And in the old arts, mitate is seeing one thing as another, a garden rock as a mountain. The work here is all three. I read what is happening with your product in Japan, choose what should change, and re-see it for this market.
Everything in writing.
No discovery calls, no meetings across time zones. You write to me, I read your product, and everything I deliver arrives as a document your team can share, translate, and act on. Async by design. It tends to be faster, and nothing gets lost in a call nobody took notes on.
You write to me about your product and where Japan fits in your plans.
I come back with questions, scope, and a quote. In writing.
I deliver. You share it with your team as is.
If any of this is useful to you.
Write to me. Two or three sentences about your product and where Japan fits is enough to start.
